Why do I say, “don’t forget to take care of yourself”?
Because I did. This is what I do, talk about taking care of yourself. And I let myself slip off the rails. It’s easy to do.
There’s no shame in that. You can restart taking care of yourself at any time. You can restart taking care of yourself many times. The failure is giving up, not a slip-up. I realized recently; that I had experienced a self-care slip-up.
So, I resolved to get back at it and made a list of things that would make me feel better. I decided getting my nails done, getting a facial and a massage, and signing up for healthy food delivery were at the top of my list. Those are the easy ones. I just call someone and make an appointment or place an order.
The more difficult one at the top of my list is to work into my schedule specific, intentional movement and workouts. I moved recently and I was able to set up a “workout area” in one of the bedrooms. I have several machines I’ve collected over the years as well as tons of apparatus like weights, bands, etc. But so far, they’ve been collecting dust. Moving a lot during the day, but it’s not enough. I need to really focus on my physicality now. I love walking, but in my area, we have had extreme heat (like a lot of the US this year) and that’s just not conducive to walking outside.
You can do this!
Taking proper care of yourself is time-consuming. Let’s face it, it’s like having a part-time job. But we would do it for our children, parents, and significant other if they needed it. But if we don’t do it for ourselves, how will we be able to do anything for anyone else?
And as I’ve mentioned before, taking care of yourself is not selfish. If you’d like to read more on that, you might enjoy this blog post.
I also am hosting a Lifestyle Retreat at Canyon Ranch in Tucson in June 2023. This is the perfect retreat for someone who wants to learn how to get on track and gather actionable steps that can be taken home to keep up the momentum. You can get more information on this retreat HERE.
